SEPTEMBER 26, 2023, BENIN CITY- On September 26th, 2023, a mental health/wellness event was organized for all 70 beneficiaries of ‘The Freedom Project to promote health and wellness by engaging in physical and other practices designed to reduce stress, such as yoga and meditation. All beneficiaries were transported to the venue, after being gifted comfortable exercise clothing and sweat towels to optimize their comfort and to encourage them to continue the learned practices. Beneficiaries were encouraged to reconnect with their bodies via guided meditation, following which they shared about aspects of their personal growth since embarking on their counseling sessions.
Following meditation, all beneficiaries engaged in an aerobics class, where a dance instructor led them through dance routines that had them excited, moving and thoroughly relaxed. Following the event, each beneficiary received a transportation stipend, fruits, and lunch. It is our hope that introducing our survivors to contemplative practices will assist their efforts in managing their mental health, as we wrap up ‘The Freedom Project.’
