On August 8, 2026, in furtherance of the U.S. State Department funded Project Restore, we conducted an awareness training on the dangers of human trafficking, reaching more than 10,000 women from different communities across Nigeria and other countries, including online participants.
The training, which featured a drama, focused on helping women better understand the realities of human trafficking, recognize common risks and warning signs, and appreciate the important role that families and communities can play in preventing trafficking.
The conference, organized by Christian Women Fellowship International, provided PJI with an important opportunity to speak directly to women who are often at the heart of their families and communities. Participants were equipped with information to help them protect themselves, their children, and other vulnerable persons around them.
A major highlight of the event was a collective pledge taken by the 10,000+ women to speak out against human trafficking in their communities and take deliberate steps to protect their children from exploitation and trafficking. The pledge reflected a shared understanding that ending human trafficking requires more than awareness; it requires individuals and communities who are willing to act, speak up, and look out for one another.
We have found that when women are informed, families are better protected and communities are stronger. Project Restore has afforded us the opportunity to continue to raise community awareness and empower women to become active voices in preventing human trafficking and protecting vulnerable persons.
