March 25, 2025 – Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. We are excited to launch ‘The Justice Project (TJP),’ which seeks to reduce human trafficking in Edo State, Nigeria by increasing prosecutions of traffickers in Edo through survivor protection and cooperation. The TJP, which is funded by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (Resilience Fund), launched with a focus group discussion involving 50 survivors of sex trafficking, all of whom are part of our PJI survivor community. This discussion marked the formal kick-off of the project activities and sought to understand the barriers survivors face in pursuing justice via the prosecution of their traffickers. The discussion offered an avenue for survivors to share their lived experiences and to voice the systemic issues they continue to face.
Earlier in March, however, we successfully recruited four (4) liaison officers—an essential step in initiating the project’s community-focused interventions. The liaison officers will serve as key connectors between survivors, communities and justice system actors throughout the duration of the ten month project.
We are grateful to the Resilience Fund for the support of The Justice Project. To learn more about our work, please email info@pathfindersji.org.
