The Justice Project (TJP) Conducted a 2-Day Law Enforcement Training on July 16 & 17, 2025 – Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria

August 1, 2025

As part of our ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking in Edo State, The Justice Project (TJP) – which aims to increase prosecutions of traffickers by promoting survivor leadership and strengthening collaboration with local law enforcement, hosted a 2-day Law Enforcement Training (LET) in Benin City on July 16-17, 2025. The training brought together representatives from ten (10) key agencies across
Edo State. With the theme “Building Awareness & Survivor-Centered Practices,” the event emphasized practical skills to foster effective survivor–law enforcement collaboration.

Participants were engaged in training sessions focused on:
 Understanding the Survivor Experience
 Survivor-Centered and Trauma-Informed Approaches to Handling Trafficking
Cases
 Trauma-Informed Prosecution and Legal Systems
 Survivor–Law Enforcement Collaboration

To reinforce learning, both law enforcement officers and Pathfinders trained survivor liaison officers took part in role plays to model the synergy needed to improve case outcomes and survivor trust. Furthermore, a collaborative liaison sheet, which outlined clear communication and collaboration channels between survivors and agencies was created as part of the next steps towards institutionalizing a survivor-centered approach in trafficking prosecutions in Edo State.

We are grateful to the Resilience Fund for its continued support of The Justice Project.
