BENIN CITY, EDO STATE. On August 23rd, 2024, 50 beneficiaries (sex trafficking survivors) of Pathfinders’ Pathway to Freedom Project (5) (PTF), who are currently receiving vocational skills training and/or start-up capital to create small businesses, also received humanitarian support to address food insecurity and alleviate poverty and hunger exacerbated by rising food costs.
Each beneficiary received a generous bundle of essential items, including food staples (rice, beans, garri, palm oil, vegetable oil, tomato paste, spaghetti, milk, and hot chocolate), personal hygiene items (detergent, bathing and washing soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, shaving stick, sanitary pads, diapers, antiperspirant and toilet tissue) and additional provisions (melon seeds, ogbono seeds, crayfish and a transportation stipend). The beneficiaries were overjoyed, expressing their gratitude through singing and dancing as they collected their aid packages, which will go a long way in supporting their physical, mental and family well-being as it helps them stay focused on their recovery.
PTF is funded by a grant from the United Nations’ Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), to which we are grateful. The opinions, findings, and conclusions stated herein are Pathfinders Justice Initiative’s and do not necessarily reflect those of the OHCHR.
